In 2003 I visited Nanjing to meet with Dr Sam Li for the first time. The purpose of the visit was to identify and witness in person the daily use of sterilised single use dental packs within a government hospital. I spent time inspecting the factory and evaluating production capabilities along with quality assurance systems. I was introduced to Sam’s family and an immediate personal bond and trust was developed; our common values both in business and in family life being the backbone of our friendship. Over the following years we worked closely together improving the quality of the products and bringing them up to western standards. Between 2003 and 2011 we relocated factories three times and eventually began to build our current facility with a 10-year plan of projected increase in sales and new product lines. Two decades later our relationship has never been more solid, both our sons now have ownership and manage this family relationship. Our Australian based business now employs over twenty people and our partners in China employ over fifty.
